What is Project Go! and Project Yield?

Project Go! is a drug elimination and crime prevention program for children and youth ages 7-15 who reside in Franklin Heights, Highland Heights, Mercury Court, and Oakland Court. Children living at Franklin Heights and Mercury Court participate at Patterson Community Center. Project Go! has three components:

STOP Drugs and Crime provides educational activities and guest speakers concerning the use of drugs and criminal behavior. STOP offers healthier choices and encourages appropriate behavior.

CAUTION It's Your Choice provides activities in how to spend your leisure time. Arts and crafts, games, sports, reading, woodworking, volunteering, neighborhood cleanups, and working block parties are just some of the activities available.

PROJECT GO! Is the trip bonus for completing a STOP and CAUTION activity. Each participant who completes a STOP and CAUTION activity and has displayed appropriate behavior is eligible for the GO trip. Bowling, skating, going to the movies, amusement parks, museums, zoos, camping, and fishing are some of the outings we will take. Those who compete the entire program will go on a BIG overnight trip!

PROJECT YIELD! is a family program offering choices of a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle. YIELD stands for Your Involvement Enriches Life's Decisions. Block parties, swim lessons, family outings, transportation to GED classes, parenting skills, First Aid/CPR classes, guest speakers, drug awareness and intervention are just some of the activities available through YIELD.

Residents of Franklin Heights, Highland Heights, Mercury Court, and Oakland Court may participate in this program which is made available through Murfreesboro Housing Authority's funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

A monthly newsletter will list the choices available and a phone number for you to call to make reservations to go. Most activities are covered financially. If there is a charge, it will be listed.

All field trips require a signed permission form. These will be kept on file and are good for one year. Children under six MUST be accompanied by a chaperone of 15 or older who will supervise that child. All trips are chaperoned by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation employees.

If you have any questions concerning field trips, classes, YIELD, Project GO! or if you wish to sign up for a trip, call Shelia Hodges, Grant/Program Coordinator at 615/893-9414 X17.
