The Murfreesboro Housing Authority administers the federal Housing Choice Voucher program, also known as Section 8. Housing choice vouchers allow families to rent safe, decent, and affordable privately owned rental housing. If you are interested in applying for the Housing Choice Voucher program, please read the "Choice Voucher: Participant Handbook" by following the link above under Section Eight.

To apply for the Choice Voucher, you must fill out a pre-application so that you can get on the waiting list. The waiting list will not open until July 1st. The list will stay open from July 1st through July 31st. You may submit your pre-application at any time during the month of July during normal business hours, or simply mail it.You may download an application in the Microsoft Word doc format by clicking the hyperlink below titled "Download S8 Pre-Application". Below this hyperlink, you may click and print from Adobe Reader.

You will not be able to fill out the pre-application online.

DO NOT BRING IN THE PRE-APPLICATION BEFORE JULY 1st OR AFTER JULY 31st. IF YOU DO, IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. IF YOU USE THE POSTAL SERVICE, YOUR PRE-APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF IT IS POSTMARKED BEFORE JULY 1ST OR AFTER JULY 31ST.

Once your application is received, your name will go on the waiting list. Our waiting list is a first come first serve list. Once your name comes up on the list, you will receive a letter with an appointment time and date for an interview. You will need to bring certain papers and documents with you to the interview. Generally, you will need all the papers mentioned in the link above called "Things Needed at Re-examination". So that you may receive that interview letter when your name reaches the top of the list, make sure you keep the Section 8 staff aware of any address change.
