Section 8 Shelter Plus Care (Homeless Program)
MHA utilizes the Shelter Plus Care Voucher Program. The shelter plus care program provides rental assistance to homeless individuals/families with disabilities. Disabilities primarily include mental illness, chronic problems with alcohol and/or drugs, and HIV/AIDES or related diseases. There is a waiting list for this program, and vouchers are limited. You will be notified when your name comes to the top of the waiting list. PLEASE keep us informed of any address change. To qualify for the S+C program, you must be homeless and residing at The Salvation Army (615/895-7069), the Room In The Inn (615/896-7016) or the Domestic Violence Shelter (615/896-2012). You must also be receiving continuing care and support from one of the four agencies listed below:
The Guidance Center (615/895-6051)
The St. Claire Senior Citizen’s Center (615/848-2550)
The Veteran’s Administration Hospital (615/896-5433)
Nashville Cares (800/845-4266)
In order to accept your application for this program, you must bring a letter from the agency that is providing your support. You must also bring a letter from the shelter in which you reside to prove your homeless status. The Murfreesboro Housing Authority must conduct a police and credit background check to determine eligibility for you and all family members over 18 years of age who reside with you.
